Encon Ceiling Fans Let the Encon Legacy Live On
Encon ceiling fans are now being sold under the Westinghouse name. Encon used to be a large manufacturer of ceiling fans.
In the past, Encon Industries even owned another top fan brand Monte Carlo, which it sold to Sea Gull Lighting. The first ceiling fans from Encon entered the U.S. market back in 1977. It was the first brand to offer reasonably-priced ceiling fans made for residential use.
However, several years later, Encon was acquired by Westinghouse and eventually became Westinghouse’s carrier name for the company’s line of lighting fan models. Now, you will still see some traces of the old Encon ceiling fans in some Westinghouse ceiling fan models.
Encon & Westinghouse Contempra IV
Encon has some notable ceiling fan models that Westinghouse eventually continued after the acquisition. First on this list is the Encon Contempra IV ceiling fan, now known as the Westinghouse Contempra IV.
The Contempra IV is a 52-inch model with five blades. It comes in a polished brass finish and is fitted with clear ribbed globes for four lights.
The Contempra line features different models with varying specifications. The 52-inch 5-blade model is suitable for use in large rooms but is not listed for outdoor use. It also has a close-to-ceiling design, making it an excellent choice for low-ceilinged rooms. The blades come in walnut and oak reversible finish.
The product is now sold under Westinghouse’s “Hugger” series, meaning “ceiling huggers” because they hang close to the ceilings. The Contempra IV features great power in a classic, home decorating piece. No wonder Westinghouse continues to revive the Contempra name up to this day.
Encon & Westinghouse Imperial
Another one of the popular Encon ceiling fans is the Imperial ceiling fan model, with a polished brass finish. The Imperial comes with 6 blades with a polished brass finish for a traditional look. The blades, on the other hand, are coated with a hi-gloss material for an even more attractive look. A light kit and remote control are also optionally available.
Encon & Westinghouse Swirl
Then there’s the elegant and sophisticated Swirl, a classic Encon model still continued by Westinghouse. The Swirl is a 52-inch five-blade ceiling fan that comes with a four-light light kit. The model looks great and elegant, but is priced only at less than $200.
You can even get it at less than $100 depending on the deal you find. The ceiling fan comes in a rustic bronze finish with five reversible blades, one side of mahogany and the other of rich walnut. The light fixture features frosted swirl glass shades, hence the name Swirl.
Swirl is powered by a 153mm x 15mm cold rolled steel motor with an 11-blade pitch, a downrod, and a 78-inch led wire. A remote control is also shipped along with the product, making this suitable even for large rooms. The Swirl has a distinctive and timeless look that will look great in your dining room or living room.
Pros: Encon ceiling fans are affordable and come with various finish and color options as well as complete features.
Cons: Encon ceiling fans are now sold under the Westinghouse name, and not all Encon products were continued by Westinghouse.
The verdict
Encon ceiling fans may not be wholly in the game anymore, but Westinghouse lets the Encon brand live on through top models that have managed to survive the changes to the Encon brand. There is a reason why these models are still continued by Westinghouse. They are excellent Encon ceiling fans that deserve to continue bringing air to households.
