Hampton Bay San Juan

by C.A.
(St. Louis, Missouri)

I purchased a beautiful San Juan ceiling fan 5 years ago that worked wonderfully for about 2-3 years. Then the light fixture gave out. I tested the bulbs, the remote device and notified Hampton Bay King of Fans. They sent a receiver and a capacitor for the fan which also stopped working.

Their customer service person assured me that about anyone could install the parts. First I had to hire someone to install the receiver which did fix the light problem. (That device fit into the ceiling which was a bit tricky). The capacitor for the fan was a real problem. Replacing the part was simple but getting all the wiring, etc. back into the proper place was not easy.

When everything was suppose to be in its place, the fan blades wouldn't work. I checked the light again. O.K. But no fan movement! I could hear humming only. It was decided the fan motor was shot when I noticed the old capacitor was warped
and slightly melted!

I notified Home Depot (purchase Place) and was told that the problem was solely Hampton Bays and that they would require a letter from the manufacturer for any kind of replacement. Also, they did not supply replacement parts for my fan. I will notify Hampton Bay Monday and attempt to get a replacement fan. It has been suggested that I should not expect much satisfaction regarding this.

Sadly, the fan was quiet and great the first few years and it was a replacement for an old fan that whirled through 15 years of service. The San Juan was too expensive to last only 2-3 years. What a disappointment!
