Home Depot Ceiling Fans Providing a “Cooler” Way on a Hot Summer Day
Home Depot opened their doors nearly 120 years after ceiling fans first appeared. Home Depot Ceiling Fans became a “cool” way of lowering hot summer temperatures, and circulating warm air in the winter, in stores, restaurants, and offices, and were very fashionable in the southern United States.
The Original Ceiling Fans used no Electricity
Electricity wasn’t commercialized in the 1860s; consequently, the first ceiling fan was without an electric motor. The alternative for powering the cooling device was a stream of running water with a turbine driving a series of belts turning the two blades on the unit.
The rotating blades forced cooler air down, or helped circulate the warm air efficiently across the entire room.
Offering an affordable ceiling fan provided Home Depot a wide variety of very “cool” choices for the hot summer months, and helped warm the room in the winter months.
Some Examples of Ceiling Fans from Home Depot
1. Hampton Bay 52” Glendale Ceiling Fan
The Home Depot ceiling fans come in a variety of finishes and light kits and are affordably priced at $60. In most models, the blades are reversible and come in either a dark teak or walnut finishes, and has a three-speed reversible control. The fittings are available in rubbed or tarnished bronze, or brushed nickel.
The fans are very quiet due to multi-capacitor and double-sealed bearing; still providing better-quality air circulation for both the winter and summer months.
By reversing the direction of the blades, the fan’s direction in the summer should be set to blow the air downward and the blades should lead with the higher side of the blade leading.
The breeze speeds evaporation of perspiration on the skin making the body’s natural cooling more effective. In winter the fan should be set to turn opposite from the summer so that the blades lower edge leads because warmer air rises to the ceiling, the ceiling fan draws the cooler air upward forcing the warmer air down; effectively evening the temperature in the room.
Fans should also be set at a slower speed in the winter to avoid “wind chill” factors.
