Step-by-step instructions

How to install ceiling fan - If you already have the wiring in places from a previous ceiling fan, then it can be quite easy when it comes to installing a ceiling fan.

You’ll just need a few minor mechanical skills and some knowledge on basic electrical wiring. The following are some easy steps to get you through the installing ceiling fan process.

Steps for Removing the Old Fan

If you already have a fixture in place that you want to replace, you are going to have to remover the old fan before you can worry about installing a ceiling fan. The following are some simple steps to help you get the old fixture uninstalled.

- Shut Off Power – The first and most important thing you will want to do is to shut off the power. You can do this at the electrical box, and after you do so, test the wall switch to make sure that the power is really off.

- Take Down Old Lights – Once you are sure the power is off then you’ll want to take down the light fixture after removing the mounting bolts. Usually it is best to take out all the light bulbs and globes for the light to make things easier.

If there are wire nuts keeping the wires together, then go ahead and keep them if they are in good condition so you can use them again.

- Check the Electrical Box – Once you have the old fixture totally removed, check the electrical box. Make sure it is well anchored since the fan is quite heavy and will need adequate support.
