Commercial and Industrial ceiling fans
Ultra Quiet and Top Efficiency.

Industrial ceiling fans are ceiling mount fans that are specifically designed to cool large commercial or industrial buildings. They are usually found in manufacturing plants, agricultural plants, factories, and warehouses. These locations usually have high ceilings so traditional fans are not enough.

The blades of industrial fans are usually made either of metal or hard plastic. Since the blades spin faster and are often larger, they need to be installed at a minimum of 10 feet from the floor. Also, no matter the circumstances, they are not considered safe for use in residential settings.

How to Select One

The most important factor that determines the quality and capacity of an industrial ceiling fan is the motor. Thus, this is also the main factor you should base your decision on when choosing an industrial fan. This is what will provide power to the fan, and this is what determines the durability of the fan. Look for powerful motors that can perform impressively and for a long time. The K55 motor found in the Emerson industrial fans are great examples of this.

To gauge the performance of the motor, check its horsepower capacity. The most powerful models on the market can move up to 10,000 cubic feet per hour without a problem.

Industrial vs. Traditional Fans – What’s the Difference?

Industrial fans differ from typical fans in many ways. Industrial ceiling fans have stronger motors and longer blades, and the blades spin at RPMs significantly higher than the speed of traditional fans. They are also capable of producing higher CFMs since they usually have to cool larger rooms and because they are placed on higher ceilings. Thus, for the air to reach downwards, they need to work doubly hard.

Unlike traditional fans, industrial ceiling fans also work in two ways. They don’t just cool rooms. They can also draw heat down from the ceiling where the air is usually warmest. This is why they are also called heat fans.

Aside from that, industrial fans are designed to be so much more durable than residential fans. This is because they need to withstand more challenging situations. For example, industrial fans are generally able to withstand moisture whereas with regular ceiling type fans, you need to look for special wet-rated fans.

What Features to Look For

Installation system. When shopping for industrial ceiling fans, look for one with a good installation system. Due to their size and the height of the ceilings they are attached to, these fans are often very difficult to install. Westinghouse offers different installation systems, allowing you to choose which one you prefer. For example, for its three-blade 56-inch Industrial fan, Westinghouse gives you a choice between a ball hanger installation system or a J-Hook installation system.

Of course, to ensure the performance, an industrial fan should also have a high CFM capacity not going below 6000 CFM. This determines how much air it can move and how effectively it can cool down a room. And if you want an energy efficient fan, the airflow efficiency rating should also matter to you. Most larger fans tend to use too much electricity, but the efficiency rating can help you determine just how much electricity operating an industrial fan takes.

Why An Industrial Ceiling Fan Is A Must

Business owners who have to operate a plant or factory have a common problem. Their plants or factories need sufficient cooling, but because of their sizes and the heat coming from the machines, their cooling needs are all blown out of proportion. This leaves them with two options: to spend way too much on air conditioning or to invest in high-performance industrial ceiling mounted fans.
