Redington IV 52" ceiling fan

by Barbie G
(Keaau, Hawaii)

First of all on a positive note..these fans are very quiet, simple design and fit in beautifully with my decor but:

1: I bought two identical fans...at the least name and model number were identical.

2: Fans have remote control for both the fan and the lights.

Problems:
1: One fan takes a Standard base light bulb and the other takes an Intermediate base which I didn't realize until I had bought them, transported them to my new home in Hawaii and had them installed then went to get bulbs for them. Why would they make the same model, same name with two different sockets. This is more than annoying as it is very difficult to get Intermediate base lights here in Hawaii. Not only that, the Intermediate base lights do not stand up to dimming and brightening and I am going through bulbs like crazy and when I do find them they are very expensive in comparison.

2: The remote on the fan with the Intermediate base bulbs works beautifully but the other one does not work at all. I thought it was the remote so exchanged it but that didn't work either. We have checked the connections, but the minute the remote is hooked in it doesn't work. The remote is removed the fan hooked up without it and it works just fine...and you guessed it...the one I want to work with a remote is the one over the dining room table. I can't afford to have someone come in. crawl up into the attic and make a switch.

When you buy something like this..DO NOT trust that the model number and name mean it is the same thing. Open it up and check it out to be sure. This has annoyed me more than you can imagine. I have to drive 20 miles to Hilo to a store that might have some Intermediate size bulbs in stock.
