Rustic Ceiling Fans
A Glimpse of An Era Long Gone

Rustic ceiling fans are favorites among interior designers and design lovers looking for a country or lodge type of look.

It is a common selection for both homes and corporate offices. For designers, the rustic look is an important design element because it can easily be combined with both traditional and contemporary styles.

For homeowners, rustic fans add an extra character to any room by re-creating an era from the past. The ambient character can make any room more relaxing. So if you’re thinking of buying a ceiling fan, choose one with a rustic look. Here are some options worth considering.

Your Best Five Options

1. Westinghouse 72326 Silverdale Energy Star, Rustic Bronze

The most popular and bestselling fan in rustic style is the Silverdale model 72326 from Westinghouse. There is a pretty good reason why this is so. The first reason is that this fan is as rustic as it can possibly get, yet its style is also versatile that it can easily match any décor. The fan comes with a rustic bronze base finish and five reversible plywood blades with high gloss mahogany and rich walnut finish.

The second reason is that this is one of the Energy Star certified rustic ceiling fans from Westinghouse. This fan is surely good news to all smart consumers who are willing to invest in a higher priced yet more efficient product in order to save in the long run. And the Silverdale offers exactly that with its powerful but efficient 172 mm x 16 mm silicon steel motor capable of producing airflow of up to 5145 CFM. Since the fan uses 66 watts without the light kit, this means its airflow efficiency is 78 cubic feet per minute.

The third reason is that it comes with an elegant glass bowl light kit that has a 13-watt maximum energy usage for each of the two base compact fluorescent bulbs. This means the ceiling fan is multi-purpose but is still efficient. The problem with the Silverdale is that it’s quite costly at over $350.

2. Hunter 28078 Markham Fan 52-inch - Distressed Relic Traditional

Another top-rating rustic fan is the Markham fan from Hunter, model 28078. This fan features a distressed relic finish. There are many unique things about the Markham, so if you’re looking for a conversation piece, this is your best bet. First, this is one of the rustic ceiling fans with unusually designed blades; its blades are pointed leaf-shaped ones.

Aside from that, the blades feature special carving to create a more intricate lodge-style look. This is completed by its elegant cherry wood finish. Third, the Markham features a very elegant light kit composed of four frosted glass shades. The light kit, however, can be covered with a cap if you don’t want to use it. The cap is already provided as part of the package.

The downside is that this is another premium offer. The Markham from Hunter sells for $340. And though it comes with a three-speed pull chain, remote and wall controls are not included and have to be bought separately.

3. Hunter HR 20714 52" Harvest Wheat, Antique Rustic Lodge Blades

Hunter HR 20714 Harvest Wheat in Antique Crackled Rustic Lodge Want a true relic? Though a bit on the extreme side of rustic-style fans, the Harvest Wheat 52-inch fan from Hunter is quite a standout. The blades look genuinely rustic with its unique cracked or grunge design.

This is truly reminiscent of an antique lodge from an era long gone. I If your priority is rustic character, then this fan is the number one choice for you. Take note, however, that this is one of the few rustic ceiling fans with a lighter color scheme compared to the more common dark-themed rustic fans you see around. The blades are of a lighter shade and the base finish is a simple cream color.

There are several other reasons why this fan stands out. First, as a Hunter product, it is powered by a WhisperWind motor that works quietly and also prevents wobbling. Second, it comes with an integrated light kit featuring a beautiful Italian Amber Scavo glass light. Third, it has three ways of installation: flush, standard, or angled.

The downside is that the bulbs for the light kit are not included in the package yet. But this is a minor downside considering that this fan will help you save a lot on cooling and heating costs in the summer and winter. This is all thanks to the fan’s airflow efficiency of 77 CFM per watt with a maximum airflow capacity of 4850 CFM.

Not only will it meet your knack for unique rustic-style ceiling fans, but it will also help you save money in the long run.

4. Casablanca 41U46D Wailea Ceiling Fan, Rustic Iron

If you want a darker rustic fan, check out the Wailea from Casablanca. The Wailea fan boasts of a deep rustic iron finish and 6 dark bronze blades. This is perfect if you prefer darker tones for your rustic-themed rooms. Don’t worry; the Wailea isn’t all about style. It is powered by Casablanca’s famed Direct Drive 153mm x 20mm motor. And even though the fan is quite small with its 31-inch blades, it does have six blades, each with a 25 degree blade pitch, which means it moves air powerfully despite its size.

Aside from that, the Wailea is an outdoor ceiling fan, making it the ultimate choice for homes with a rustic exterior. It is ETL-listed and UL damp rated for use in covered outdoor areas. The blades are weather-resistant due to its rustic-looking ABS blades and highly durable hardware.

The only downside is that the Casablanca Wailea costs $280, which is quite expensive, especially since it doesn’t include a light kit.

5. Casablanca 83U46D Four Seasons III Outsider Fan, Rustic Iron

Casablanca 83U46D Four Seasons III Outsider Fan in Rustic Iron For classic-looking rustic ceiling fans, go for the Four Seasons III Outsider from Casablanca. This is a full featured fan with plenty of unique advantages. First, it stands out because of its classic rustic look.

It has a lighter rustic iron finish than the Wailea, giving it a more antique feel. Second, the ceiling fan also comes with a more powerful Direct Drive 172mm x 12mm motor, which is even Energy Star certified for its energy efficiency. Third, the fan is UL damp rated for outdoor use in covered areas, thanks to its 5 all-weather blades. Fourth, it comes with Casablanca’s exclusive features such as the Hang-Tru canopy and the Perma Lock down rods.

The Four Seasons III Outsider, however, is a bit more expensive at $310, and it also doesn’t come with a light kit nor a remote/wall control unit even at that price.

Rustic Ceiling Fans – How to Choose One

There are plenty of rustic-style fans on the market, so it might be hard to make a choice. Make sure to buy a rustic fan that accentuates the décor of your room. You can also choose whether you prefer a darker or a lighter tone. Aside from the look, don’t forget to consider the size and price of the fan. This way, you won’t just buy a fan that matches your décor, but one that also matches your needs and budget perfectly.
